Leading expert on U.S.-Japan philanthropy appointed visiting fellow at Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy

INDIANAPOLIS—David Janes has been appointed Visiting Fellow at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy at IUPUI, the world’s first school of philanthropy, from 2022 to 2023. Janes is one of the prominent experts in the United States on philanthropy in Japan and a valued leader in the U.S.-Japan philanthropic world as well as in philanthropy related to Asia more broadly.

Janes is currently Chief Advancement Officer of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University and President and CEO of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Foundation. Prior to this, for 18 years he was a senior executive with the United States-Japan Foundation. He currently chairs the board of the $42 million Japan International Christian University Foundation in New York and holds many other board positions.
At the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Janes will bring together top philanthropic foundations in the U.S. and Japan to improve philanthropy in both countries and advance cross-boundary learning in this field.

Tempel Dean of the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy. “We also anticipate that our faculty and students will benefit from the expansion of philanthropic horizons that will be enabled through David Jane’s affiliation with us.”
