IUPUI scholarships for international students include many awards just for freshmen

Read about IUPUI scholarship eligibility criteria and deadlines for freshmen (first-year students) below. 

Important Information

  • Apply by November 1 for maximum scholarship consideration if you plan to enroll at IUPUI in the fall term.
  • You must submit SAT or ACT scores to be considered for most of these scholarships. If you take the tests multiple times, submit all of your scores. We use your best scores when we determine your scholarships. 
  • All scholarships require you to be enrolled full time in the fall and spring semesters. For scholarship renewal critera please refer to the Office of Student Scholarships.
  • Scholarship funds cannot be used for intensive study of English as a Second Language.

Deadlines for Scholarship Consideration

IUPUI Housing Stipend ($2,500)

Students are eligible for this one-time award if they:

  • Meet criteria for a freshman merit scholarship
  • Enroll at IUPUI in the fall term
  • Submit a housing application by April 1 (international students should apply for housing by March 15)

This stipend may be combined with a merit scholarship.

Merit Scholarships

IUPUI will automatically consider you for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Students can receive a maximum of one merit scholarship. Merit scholarships may be renewed for up to four years.

  • Outstanding Scholar Award (Up to $60,000)

    Amount

    $15,000 per year for up to four years. 

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Have a minimum high school/secondary school cumulative GPA of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale
    • Have one of the following minimum test scores:
      • Old SAT (taken before March 2016):
        • (Native English Speakers): 1250 on the Math and Critical Reading sections
        • (Non-Native English Speakers): 650 on Math section or 1250 on the Math and Critical Reading sections
      • New SAT (taken after March 2016)
        • (Native English Speakers): 1310 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections
        • (Non-Native English Speakers): 670 on Math section or 1310 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections
      • ACT: composite score of 28

    Scholarship details

    If you apply for Admission to IUPUI by November 1 and meet the elgibility criteria, then you can also apply for the Chancellor's Scholarship or the Plater International Scholarship through the IUPUI Honors College.

  • Dean’s Recognition Scholarship (Up to $44,000)

    Amount

    $11,000 per year for up to four years.

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Have a minimum high school/secondary school cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
    • Have one of the following minimum test scores:
      • Old SAT (taken before March 2016):
        • (Native English Speakers): 1200 on the Math and Critical Reading sections
        • (Non-Native English Speakers): 600 on Math section or 1200 on the Math and Critical Reading sections
      • New SAT (taken after March 2016):
        • (Native English Speakers): 1270 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections
        • (Non-Native English Speakers): 620 on Match section or 1270 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections
      • ACT: composite score of 26
  • Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships (Up to $40,000)

    Amount

    $10,000 per year for up to four years.

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Apply for admission by March 1
    • Are ranked first or second in your high school/secondary school class (your class must have 25 or more students)
  • International Ambassador Award (Up to $28,000)

    Amount

    $7,000 per year for up to four years.

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Have a minimum high school/secondary school cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    • Submit one of the following minimum scores:TOEFL iBT score of 80, or IELTS score of 6.5, or O-Level and equivalents A-B in English Language, PIE Level 7, or Old SAT (Critical Reading) score of 500, or New SAT (Reading) score of 27, or ACT (English) score of 22, or proof you are a native English speaker 
  • ELS Ambassador Award (Up to $20,000)

    Amount

    $5,000 per year

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Have a minimum high school/secondary school cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
    • Successfully complete Level 112 at ELS Language Centers in the USA or Canada. 

Competitive Scholarships

These scholarships require you to submit a separate application. They may also require you to submit additional materials.

These scholarships are awarded to students who have achieved outstanding performance in a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum. They must have excellent SAT or ACT scores. If English is not your native language, you must also have excellent TOEFL scores.

Finalists may be required to complete an interview. Students who live outside Indiana are interviewed by phone.

  • Chancellor's Scholarship (Up to $76,000)

    Amount and benefits:

    • $19,000 per year for up to four years
    • A $2,500 stipend for a study abroad experience
    • A $2,500 stipend to help pay for residence on campus their freshman year
    • Direct Admission into the Honors College 

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Apply for a Fall term 
    • Complete IUPUI application and scholarship application (and submit all materials) by November 15
    • Have a cumulative high school cumulative GPA of 3.75 (weighted)
    • Have a minimum Old SAT score of 1250 for the Math and Critical Reading sections, or New SAT score of 1310 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections, or a minimum ACT composite score of 28
    • Complete the Honors Online Application

  • Plater International Scholars Program (Up to $108,000)

    Amount and benefits

    • $27,000 per year for up to four years
    • A $2,500 stipend for a study abroad experience
    • A $2,500 stipend to help pay for residence in International House their freshman year
    • Direct Admission into the Honors College 

    This prestigious, highly competitive scholarship is for exceptional incoming freshmen who are committed to combining academic excellence with global citizenship. Plater International Scholars are very involved in international events at IUPUI and receive special benefits, such as access to high-profile international visitors.

    You may be eligible if you:

    • Apply for Fall term 
    • Complete IUPUI application and scholarship application (and submit all materials) by November 15
    • Have a cumulative high school cumulative GPA of 3.75 (weighted)
    • Have a minimum Old SAT score of 1250 for the Math and Critical Reading sections, or New SAT score of 1310 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections, or a minimum ACT composite score of 28
