Sun Yat-Sen University 2+2 Program

Through a partnership between Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), students can complete two years of academic study at SYSU and then transfer to IUPUI to earn a degree from either Indiana University or Purdue University.

Application must be submitted by: March 1 
Admission is possible for Fall Semester only.

All supporting documents must be submitted by: March 15 

The application and all supporting documents must be submitted by May 1 to be considered for a scholarship.

 

Application Process

  • Online Application

    The online application takes about 30 minutes to complete. If necessary, you can save your work and log back in later to complete it.

    You will need the following information to complete the application:

    • Your full name as it appears on your passport 
    • Your date of birth - Remember to use the American date order: month/day/year

    • Your email address - All application instructions from IUPUI will go to this email account.

    Application Fee

    A Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card to pay the nonrefundable $65 application fee.

  • Official Academic Records

    You must submit  transcripts, including work already completed and work currently in progress. 

    Within 48 hours of submitting the online application, you will receive an email from oiaunder@iupui.edu that has instructions about how to submit your documents. You will submit them electronically through iStart, our online portal for international students. You will have to supply the original documents before you enroll.

    English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

    As a non-native speaker of English, if you score below 95 on the iBT (Internet Based TOEFL) or 7.0 on the IELTS, then you will take the IUPUI English for Academic Purposes (EAP) exam. All Sun Yat-Sen students who score 80 or more on the iBt or 6.5 or above on the IELTS will be required to take no more than one EAP course. If you score lower than 80 on the iBT or 6.5 on the IELTS, then you will need to take EAP courses as determined by the EAP results. SYSU students should be aware that payment for the cost of these courses is the responsibility of the student. EAP courses are billed at the same rate as all other out-of-state credit bearing courses.

  • Copy of Your Passport

    You will submit this through iStart, our online portal for international students. 

    For spelling purposes only:

    We need to make sure that your name on your I-20 immigration document (to obtain your visa to enter the U.S.) exactly matches your name on your admission letter and the name on your passport.

  • Financial Support Agreement

    Since you are requesting an I-20 in order to obtain a student F1 visa, you must submit financial documentation verifying your ability to pay your tuition and living expenses.

  • Information Release Form

    Submitting this form allows IUPUI administrators to communicate with Sun Yat-Sen University administrators about your grades and academic issues. United States privacy laws require that we have your permission to do this.

  • Recommendation Letter from SYSU Department

    Your Sun Yat-Sen University academic department may write their own recommendation letter, or, they may submit the sample letter with your application materials. The letter must state that you are eligible to apply to the SYSU-IUPUI 2+2 Degree Program.

After You Apply
