IUPUI is host to nearly 1,700 international students and research scholars each year from over 100 countries. IUPUI is an urban university community located in downtown Indianapolis, known as the "Circle City." Indianapolis is among the 15 largest cities in the U.S., with a population of almost 800,000. Located in the heart of Indiana, it is the state capital. The city is most famous for the Indy 500 race held every May. Indianapolis offers outstanding museums, parks, and performing arts within blocks of the IUPUI campus.
The city also is home to hundreds of ethnic restaurants and grocery stores, a variety of places for religious worship (churches, mosques, temples), and numerous festivals that celebrate various ethnicities.
